Libang/Hibang
21 June – 13 July 2025
Gajah Gallery Yogyakarta
Gajah Gallery proudly presents Libang/Hibang, a group exhibition curated by Leslie de Chavez. Featuring prominent Filipino contemporary artists, the show unfolds during one of Yogyakarta’s peak art seasons—offering a timely platform for regional dialogue.
Following exhibitions in Singapore (2023) and Jakarta (2024), this Yogyakarta iteration deepens the Gallery’s commitment to championing Filipino voices across Southeast Asia.
Titled after the Filipino words libang (distraction) and hibang (madness or obsession), the exhibition reflects on the politics of attention in an age of digital noise and perpetual scrolling. Through painting and sculpture, the artists interrogate what it means to truly see and be seen—exploring themes of intimacy, overstimulation, cultural memory, and media saturation.
More than a theme, attention becomes the exhibition’s driving force: a radical act of care, presence, and resistance.
Join us at the opening on Saturday, 21 June 2025, 6–9PM.
